Presence Day – Practicing Presence in a Noisy Culture
July 14 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm$39
This Presence Day’s theme may seem like an oxymoron. We will be having our solitude time with God at a mall in one of the wealthiest areas in the country. But what better place to practice presence, focus on God and listen than in a place that is screaming the exact opposite?
As usual, we will gather in a home and Gem will help prepare you for your solitude mall adventure. Then, at the mall, we will practice presence in the midst of the hustle and bustle. We will focus in three ways: on God, on ourselves and on people. Gem will provide you with journal prompts as you listen to God, notice your own heart, and pray for those you see passing by.
Date: Saturday, July 14, 2018
Location: Costa Mesa, CA (Home address given after registration), and South Coast Plaza.
Bring: Sack lunch, water bottle, bible, journal. (You may also choose to purchase your lunch in the food court, if you’d like).
WHAT TO EXPECT
It’s easy to feel beaten down by the busy culture in which we live. Often we are encouraged to get some “me” time to replenish. “Me” time can be helpful. But a Presence Day is much more than that. It’s an “Us” time.
A Presence Day involves solitude and silence in the context of relationship with God (the first “us”). It also involves safe, caring conversation with women who, like you, take your relationship with God and your own growth seriously (the second “us”).
The flow of a Presence day retreat includes scripture reflection, instruction and direction from Gem Fadling, an extended time with God in solitude, silence and prayer, and sharing in spiritual community.
Over time, this type of retreat can help you to create a deep reservoir inside your own heart, from which you can draw on in your every day life.
I must say I was so encouraged by the depth of sharing by each of these beautiful women. Gem truly has a gift in fostering a safe place that nurtures inner most feelings and insights to be shared among women who have never met. So grateful! (Gayle S.)
Gem is the perfect guide for weary souls seeking refreshment with the Lord. Her welcoming, cheerful, and gentle presence helps us to put our guards down and feel safe. She also has a wealth of experience to share from her own journey with God that helps newbies or experienced seekers discern the movements of the Spirit. (Kate K.)
